North Lighthouse
The youngest of barbados's lighthouses was erected in 1925 on the North-west side of the island in St. Lucy. It is 145 feet above sea level and stands itself 85 feet (26m). It is made of coral stone as well, has a l.C. 15 lampchanger, twin electric drive motor, optic control cubicle, lister SR2, stand by generating set and control panel, supposedly the original lens and rotating table, it's range is approximately 22 miles and produces over 1000 candelas. Currently this lighthouse seems to be in the best shape of all four which is expected because it was built almost a century later than the first. Again some rust can be noticed on the upper superstructure and Surrounding barracks are in bad shape. The lighthouse has a legend. The legend goes as follows, That a daughter of one of the oldest residences in St. Lucy, a Mr. Cox, had promised her hand in marriage to a naval officer. Mr. Cox did not approve of the marriage so the couple decided to elope. On a starlit night the daughter started her journey to meet her lover who had brought a small boat to the bottom of the cliff to take them away. Mr. Cox finding out about the plan started after his daughter. The daughter rather than fail to meet her lover threw herself off the cliff breaking her neck. The officer then shot himself. The cliff is Known as lover's leap.
Hence the poem;
" Oh haste thee: haste, The lady cries, Through tempest round us gather, I'll meet the raging of the skies, but not thy raging father."
some paint peelage on the lower parts. TheThe lighthouse is said to protect lover's leap.
